    200X front brake: no reservoir

Yesterday I was bleeding my front brakes, between the cold and the fact that the reservior is 26 years old it cracked. I fabbed up a gasket and just bolted to cover to the piston assembly. Somehow it seems to work. Will the brake lock up if the fluid heat up?

What are the reasons this shouldn't work?

So nobody else has tried this? Guess I'll give a test report after I take it for a ride. Kinda think it will be fine all winter but if I ride it hard in summer the brake fluid will heat and expand and lock up my front brake, but maybe not.

You have no room for expansion and contraction, no resevoir to deal with it.....

Most likely something unfortunate will come out of it, get a mastewr off of a newer dirtbike.

you can still get the res. from honda, I bought one a month ago or so. I think it was around 25 bucks. Expensive for a piece of plastic, but well worth it. jim

I'd love to machine them out of billet aluminum..... But, no one will pay for it

Yeah I figured it wouldn't work right but I wanted to go for a ride and it was easier to put the cap on than to take the whole brake assembly off. And it does seem to work, for now.

I have the aluminum already, but it's too much conventional machining and needs to be done on a CNC. That size rectangular stock is quite expensive too! But aluminum would look cool.......

UHMW would probably work just as well, IDK they were still available. I thought they were gonezo.................

There was a guy on Ebay a few years ago that was selling billet reserviors, but I haven't seen them available for a long time. I have no idea what he was charging.

Back to the topic at hand, I agree with DC, just get a reservior from a dirt bike, and you're all set

I bought a new OEM reservoir last fall and it came from Honda. Who knows maybe I got the last one... Beauty for me is that I pay enough tuition the aluminum is free, all it costs for me is the machine time to make the stuff I want. Mostly it's coming up with ideas for things to make lol.
