my 250sx's boggin at WOT and at 1/2 throttle at 5th gear.I cant reach top speed as it starts boggin badly.I know my jetting is probably too rich but can a dirty carb cause that?just to be sure: for the pilot screw, when I turn it counter clockwise its giving it more air right? Thanks for anwserin!

Sounds to me like you lost a needle bearing on your wrist pin or you might have some slop in your wrist pin to piston if your running a weisco forged piston such as a p6 it is a common issue when you bored and stroked your trike did they chafer the ports if not that will cause the rings to catch slightly and 1st symptom will be a knock or clatter sound and eventually will take a chunk from the top of the piston next no compression than will gauge the hell out of the cylinder wall

Just got bike running. Smoking and jet infoSo I got my 85 Tecate running today and has an aftermarket pipe and 300 jet. A lot of white smoke but the plug was new. When I took it out it was wet and black. In confused if its rich or lean because white smoke means lean and wet and black plug means rich... Any one know?! I don't know what to do. Smaller or bigger jet?Live Fast

I recently picked up a bike as a little project, and well it has what looks to be a new carb on it. The bike fires right up but as soon as it does it just starts to rev uncontrolably. what do you guys think this could be? since the carb looks to be new im guessing its never been jetted corectly and im not even sure its anywhere near were it needs to be. ive checked the slide and it does not seem to be stuck at wot. Thanks for any help!

Check the adjustment on the throttle cable. When I got my bike it had the wrong pilot jet and the former owner adjusted the cable all the way out causing the throttle to stick wide open

I see this thread is OLD, but hoping to get an answer. Going to be picking up an '85 250sx in 2-3 weeks. Previous owner said he swapped the factory carb out and put a 300ex carb on it. Along with a K&N Air filter. Said it runs fine at idle and light to moderate throttle. But under wide open throttle want's to bog. So being the new carb is larger in diameter I'm guessing it would have to be jetted down? Or would I be able to adjust the mixture with the pilot screw and needle clip? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if anyone knows of an aftermarket silencer or exhaust for this machine, please let me know! Thanks guys!
