A court date? What for, to show you are the owner? First thing I would assume would be running the vin to see if it has been stolen. If you could find the last titled owner you could contact them and see if they have the title to sign over to you. But that could blow up in your face if they say it was stolen but not reported. What is the statute of limitations on grand theft? If it was never titled I would assume you would just sign up for a title. But I wonder if they could hit you up for back taxes?
    Just a thought..

COURT????? I thought Jersey was bad. I guess if they run the vin and it's hot they need someone to charge. I hope you know the background on your bikes wouldn't want to see you lose them.

In Michigan when I buy a three wheeler, I get a bill of sale from the seller with the VIN number, the date I purchased it, and the cost. I then take it to the Sec. of States office and apply for a title. Takes a couple of days as they run the VIN to see if it has been stolen. I haven't had any problems getting titles so far. In Michigan back in the day when you could buy three wheelers new from dealers they did not issue titles.

in texas, ownership is 9/10s of the law. if they show it was not registured for the last 10 years, it's considered abonded and they whipe it. even if it was stole you can registure and title it as your own after 10 years.

    i love texas.

i just called the DCNR in PA this week about getting a title a 4wheeler i bought. they ran the vin for me and it was not stolen but had been thru a bunch of unknown owners since 2000 was it wsa titled last. they send out a notice to the last person in record asking for them to sign the title over to me, if they dont respond in 3 weeks, all i gotta do is write a bill of sale to show some type of proof i bought it. then i can print out an application and sent it and and get my title and or register it.

to get where i got i 1st called a local title and register place then they hooked me up with the info to the state and they helped me form there out. try what i did 1st, maybe it will get ya the same results!

    In Florida you need:

A competent DMV counter worker (this is, by leaps and bounds the hardest part of the procedure) because they will argue with you till the sun sets about how you need an MCO or an old title signed over (These aint boats or cars lady, this state didn't issue titles until about 6 years ago!). Arm yourself with a print off from your states DMV office specifying exactly what it is your trying to tell them, and they will still argue with your 3/4 of the time.

A bill of sale with the make, model, serial #, date, and purchase price. As well as the buyer and sellers names.

Then if your bill of sale has the date on it newer than 2002, they charge you sales tax on it, which really sucks, but its the government so what else can you expect from them.

They will then issue a title on the spot there for you and print stickers out. Your paper copy of the title will come in the mail to you a few weeks later.

Really, getting past step #1 is the hardest part. After that it is easy.

Three wheeler guys probably have the biggest balls out of all the ATV/Motorcycle riders. You just have to be a little twisted to ride them, and you have to be a great rider to do so.

Texas is good until you have to file for title for a boat that no on can find the last owner who had it registered. I sold my last jet ski cause i had to go through too many hoops to get a title for it.. in the End i just said forget it.

Anyone have experience with this in Illinois? I would imagine it would be a nightmare here.
