The record labels have forced them into doing it. If you use any music owned by a major label, they will either delete it or put up an ad depending on who the owner is. When you compile a vid, the music and background sounds are one track so they cannot seperate them. All they can do is mute it.
I think the majority of the record labels have an agreement in place that allows us to use their library as long as youtube puts up the ad. Warner Music Group however does not have that same agreement. Unfortunately, WMG is HUGE and own a crapload of great music. Any WMG owned tracks get muted.
