A couple Tri Moto 175 questions

Hi, i got a free yamaha tri moto 175 last week. I was on holidays now and i just went into the garage and got it running. I just want to ask a couple quick questions. Thanks

Its 2 stroke oil injection, I want to know if it works, I am pretty sure it does since it smokes like a 2 stroke should,
Should I run premium in this since Ethonal in regular is hard on a 2 stroke?
I noticed theres a oil plug on this where you would check oil on a 4 stroke. Is this for trannmission fluid or chain lube or what?

    Thanks again, Brian

The plug is for tranny fluid.

Just about any pump gas should be fine.

If it's smoking then it sounds like your injector system works. Just make sure the bottle under the seat stays full and you'll be good to go!

Thanks for the reply. What sort of fluid? Can i use 4 cycle engine oil? do I fill it to the top of the filler neck?

You can use atf in a pinch BUT I would highly recommend going to a motorcycle shop and getting two stroke transmission oil. I run GearSaver brand 2 stroke tranny fluid in all my 2 strokes. There is a check bolt on the side of the engine just below that cover that has the filler neck on it. You unscrew that bolt and then fill the tranny just until the oil dribbles out that bolt hole. DO NOT fill it to the neck. That's way too much.

Welcome to the forums, the manual says to use 10w30 oil in the transmission and a good quality 2 stroke oil for the motor. When you go to fill the transmission you only fill it until it comes out the lower bolt in that cover that has the plastic plug in it.

You picked up a nice machine, starts right up.

If you want to know the exact year (82 or 83), post the VIN. Someone else may be able to tell by looking (me, not so smart).

You can clean those plastics. quite a few threads on it, one here.

My computer will not allow me to watch Youtube or I would try and tell you what year it is.

Here is another link to restoring the plastic.

How would I mount just my seat onto the chassis, as its hard they are hard to get on and to choke it and fill up oil i always have to remove the fenders. How hard would this be. What is the vent for that goes down the chassis? Is that for air?

Are you saying you want to get rid of the rear fender and put the seat on the bare frame and I need more info on the vent you are talking about?
