is what happens is one power plant will go out, so another takes its area over. Now that one is doing doubble the work, it overloads and shuts down now the next one has 3 times the work to do. its all a domino affect and just keeps going. its real easy for it to happen.

i am a shift supervisor at a power plant. normally the loss of one plant is no big deal. but if the grid is stressed and you lose one plant it will increase the load on the others. this increased load will lower the line voltage and frequency until the next unit trips and so on. i can and has happened before. it happened in florida.
