RAD 250R Bearing Carrier FYI

I just got one that I ordered and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. Mostly because the adjustment part is no different than my stock one. I ASSumed it would be the type where you put a steel rod into a hole on the sprocket side to make your chain adjustment but its just like the stock one, only the stock one gives you a little more of a notch to grab than this thing does. The Lonestar one has the holes in it for adjustment but they're on backorder until mid-February. My other gripe is that every one pictured on their site has a grease zerk on the side that you can access pretty easily, this has a hole drilled there but its a blind hole and doesn't lead to anything. It has the other zerk that you can access by taking the cap off on the back of the arm. I'm contemplating sending this thing back and I wanted to warn anyone else who is considering one that it isn't an improvement.



You can see on the left that there is one step that is VERY shallow, there is another just like that but the pic is dark and you can see it. The ones next to the shallow ones are better on one side but not the other.

many of the carrier manufacturers are putting the hole in the side so you can but a steel rod in the hole then roll the bike so that the sprocket will spin the carrier because the steel rod is there. i don't like adjusting my chain that way. i don't know the 250R that well but the 350X, you have to upgrade to the 86 back sprocket and bolts to run the other style carrier.

Thanks for the explanation of the blind hole in the side. I don't think I'd adjust my chain that way either but its nice to know why they bothered putting that hole there. On the R you don't need to change out the sprocket set up like on the X but I guess you have to get the LSR carrier if you want the better adjustment method. I think I'm just going to file the steps that are too shallow and run this one.

I want what was pictured when I selected the carrier for an 85 250R and besides, an 86 carrier won't fit an 85 arm.

I love my RAD on my atc450 uses adjustment holes like the lonestar. I've never seen one your style before. Mine also has the side grease zerk. Have a lonestar on my TRX250t and I hate it. The bearings roll hard and have to remove it to grease

My point is, that is the style your R takes regardless of what the picture shows.

Be glad they bother to make that odd size carrier at all and do your homework when ordering things like that. To blame them for making a 85 carrier look like a 85 carrier is nuts.

It should be easy to drill the holes that you want. I would think easier than filing the notches deeper.

Nowhere does the website show a pic of an '85 carrier. This page... http://www.radmfg.com/carriers.htm ...shows a part # of H-10...which is an '86 carrier.

Everyone who has access to a CNC is jumping on the round product program. Some are built well and others, very little thought or "improvements" are incorporated into them.

New products need to be just that, "NEW" and improved as far as lubrication and adjustability go IMHO...........

If your swinger is smooth and the carrier lubed up, the chain should adjust like chicken. BUT, we ride in mud/snow/wet and overall tough terrain/conditions. They need to expect that with there products!!

On the site I ordered it from, when you click on 1985 ATC250R they show you a picture of the one with the holes for adjustment, not to mention that every single aftermarket carrier I've ever seen for a Honda has the holes to put the tool in for adjustment. Pardon me for trying to give some of the others on here a heads up before they get something that isn't what they expected. For what its worth the stock 86 carrier doesn't look like the aftermarket one so saying that I'm nuts to be upset that my aftermarket 85 carrier looks like the stock 85 carrier is retarded.

So you didn't do your homework and are complaining when they send you what they offer for your bike?

Like I said, be glad they offer you anything for a 25 year old trike.

So just because its an old machine I should be happy to get something that is not what was depicted on the company's web site and is barely an improvement from stock? I wanted a double row carrier and every picture on the manufacturer's site shows a particular style of adjustment, the company I bought from depicts it with that same time of adjustment, when I get it the adjustment is not what was represented on either site. Maybe by my posting this the next person who is looking for one will not be caught off guard as I was. If you're happy getting a misrepresented product just because you own an old machine then good for you, I have a higher standard than that I guess.
