    1985 Tecate help needed

    Hello guys,
Picked up a nice original 85 tecate -3 and have some questions.
Can the rear shock be rebuilt ?
Can 86/87 OEM rear fenders work on an 85 - only the low pro's are available for 85 unless someone knows where I can get the stock 85 rears.
Whats the best way to restore the tank? Can it be painted ?
What about a Klemm Research pipe - anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks - I'll post some pics soon.
    Matt

The rear shocks can be rebuilt, but I think you have to cross-reference the right parts because I believe the actual Tecate parts have been discontinued. If you want somebody to do it for you, SBLT500R here on the boards does it. I think you COULD use the 86 plastics on the 85, but I'm not quite sure how they would mount up. Personally I don't like the 86 plastics on the 85, but that's a matter of opinion. The best way to restore the tank is to wet-sand it. I've never done it, but numerous people on here have.

tank can be sanded and polished: or tank bra cover
different plastics, will prob fit with new mounts = welding
my guess is klemm pipes are no longer sold...DG is the only one who makes pipes yet i think
i dont belive low pro fenders are made anymore, maiers copy of stock is as good as it gets and thats not even the same.

Tank: Wet sand and polish, paint with fall off the surface, due to the fumes.
Shock: They can be rebuilt $$$, I used a 300ex shock
Pipes: Hunt for them on E-Bay, DG still makes them, I have a Jemco, they are also still making pipes, just at a higher cost then DG.
Fenders: Mine came with an 86 front fender that was rigged up. Took it off....got an 85. OEM fenders are still out there, but are discontinued.

Thanks guys, I may send my shock to SBLT500R if I can figure out how to contact him
Hopefully i can find a used Klemm pipe, the one that's on there is a no name but seems to work fine - the Tecate has lots of power, the wheel lift with ease in first three gear.
