Any body heard of Taotao??? Chinese company? Are Lifan motors really that good?

I never thought I would consider it but someone offered a 2008 Taotao 150 cc 4 wheeler for a wood stove. Anyone heard of that brand? Any thoughts or rides on one?

Also Lifan? I've seen some signatures with Lifan engines in ATC 70's? Are the engines really that good? Has anyone rode any of their products?

Just wondering about these since they are so cheap, and some look like a lot of fun.

But not as fun as my 200X....

Never heard of Taotao. Is it just me, or do a lot of Chinese brand names seem like a joke? Also, they seem to change every other day. Lifan is an exception though. Some will argue that they're no good, but my son's quad has a Lifan engine in it and it runs strong. I have thought of using one to redo my 200x!

Yea what harryredtrike said they are ok for the young kids but if you get a big person on it the front arms and spindle will snap off also the rear motor mount will break, and if you jump it hard the chain breaks. As far as the engine they are honda clone engines and run good (keep up on the maintenance). The starter will burn up if you use it too long. Use good mechanical sense and you will be fine. If it shifts don't get it the clutches go out. I ruined 2nd gear in one in like 5 minutes just dinkin off. Whats it look like they make so many sizes and models of the bikes its hard to give you a solid answer if I saw it I could tell you the good and bad about it.
I used to assemble and repair these tao tao bikes along with like 12 other brands of chinese bikes and scooters.

Here's the Taotao 4 wheeler, 150 cc, 2008. Trading for a wood stove so not too bad. Its not going to be ridden too hard. Mostly getting it to get my fiance into riding. And ya know now that I think of it I've never rode a 4 wheeler. Figure if she likes it I can get her something nicer later, hopefully a trike. But it looks a lot more fun than a second wood stove I have no use for.

Does Lifan make a bolt in engine for the 200X? How much did it cost?

Looks like this could be a lot of fun in a my Trail 90, a Trail 140, that would be fun.

That bike is a good learner bike it doesn't have a high top speed and it can handle an adult. Has good low end power it wont wheelie but it will climb pretty good. We didn't have many issues with it, usually dead batteries and dirty carbs from them sitting all winter. It is a a lot more fun than a wood stove. Looks like the rear rack and the plastic foot guards are missing but that doesn't affect the bike. Good luck with it.

will a 200x carb and exhaust fit on a 200 lifan motor? I was looking at them as an option for my 200x basket

Yeah looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to play around with it later tonight. No manual or specs. But for a wood stove, and they drove here and dropped it off, not bad. Tires are good. Cables all need oiled badly, needs some air in the tires, fresh gas, new plug, chain adjusted, fresh oil, charged battery and it will be fun. Hoping I can get most of it done tonight. And its always fun to have a spare to people can ride with ya.

So its got a GY6 motor in the thing. The cam chain seems real loose to me. But the only engines I have rebuilt were a XS1100 and GS1000, so it would make sense they would have more tension on a cam chain. Anyone familiar with this GY6 150 cc motor. Its a Honda clone. And if I can get it running good a guy is interest in trading a nicer 200X than mine for it.

Its only 2 years old so I really doubt the cam chain is stretched. Thinking the plastic cam chain guides might be real worn from the dirty oil it was running. You can lift the chain off the cam gear some, not near enough for it to come off but a lot more than on the large bike engines I'm used to. Is it just a less precise engine and the small displacement doesn't need that much tension on it? I mean the spring in my 200X cam tension is a lot lighter than I am used to but I haven't have the valve cover off to feel how much tension it is putting on the chain.

Wow, HRT, that was a great price to your door and e-start too..... Unless it proved to be complete garbage, I'd give it a shot. Do you guys go back to Lifan for parts also? or do some Honda parts fit?

I guess the question depends on what you paid for the wood stove? or it's actual value? Isn't your average wood stove a couple/few hundred bucks?
