    Mikuni VM22 carb-Junk!

    I have a Mikuni VM22 carb on my 85 YTM 200ERN, it's JUNK. I have on a daily basis had to take it off and mess with float, gasket and blow it out. I have cleaned the tank, which is plastic, new fuel line's and fuel filter. So bacially I have boiled it down to I have a piece of crap carb. I just want to replace it with another reliable manufacturer, with a carb I can just bolt on and go! Does anyone have any idea's or links? Thanks

    my chinese pit bike runs a mikuni and i am impressed with it. i guess they don't hold up over the years like a keihin
    proud owner of a trx300ex quad and an 85 atc 70

    People piss on Mikuni but they are not that different from a Keihin... They are just a piece of aluminium with hole, with jets, gaskets, washers and o-ring... The problem is that they are old. Try to understand how a carb work before throwing it to the trash...

    The VM carbs are not junk. They are actually quite reliable. What you need to do is a proper rebuild. The rebuild kits are cheap, and you can have it done and back to perfect working order in less than a 1/2 hr. Unless you are looking for something that performs better, I would say just rebuild the one you've got. If you are deadset on getting another carb, I would suggest a Keihin PJ oval which is one of the best performing oval slide carbs ever made. They are also very affordable. Or if you don't care about money, a Keihin PWK flatslide, or Mikuni TMX flatslide for the best in performance. But seriously, just rebuild the one you have.

    You know I 'm going to try the cheap route first, with a rebuild kit. I just don't want to have to fidget with all the time, it's becoming a constant headache! Thanks guys!

    i love the mikuni on my yt125, the keihin on my 200x sucks, i think it just matters on how well u clean and take care of them and how they r adjusted
