25x12x9 tire change with tire irons?

I have a friend who works for a tire shop so I change my own tires for free on their machine. They will do most any tire, including ATV. The split wheels they don't like to do but they will do them. If your shop won't do ATV tires, find someone who will. They're not that difficult.

That's the easy part. Getting tires separated from a wheel that have been mated together for 15 years or more is the challenging part.

I put the new tires by the wood stove for a few minutes and I can't believe how flexible it made them, I am certain that this is key to putting them on. I will keep you posted.

Well, I just took a front rim from a 70 to a local lawn tractor service place... that tires been on for 25 years and was stuck bad. The service guy says "oh, split rims? no problem!" You can guess where I'm going from here... the guy struggles with it forever just to break the beads, starts BEATING on my rim with a because the new tire was misshapen from sitting in a stack of tires and he couldn't get it to seat. Then he jams a screwdriver in the hole and torques it to get the holes to line up. Bent the rim a little, so he grabs a socket extension and his HAMMER again and says "oh, I'll straighten that out for ya". Gee, thanks bud. Then he proceeds to charge me $32.50 because it took so long... I gotta tell ya, my backside hurts right now.

Sounds like he did not know his head from his ....a little lube go's along way...split rims are easy...just take a few more minutes to do properly.

I have 25x12x9 tires. Let me tell you those things are no joke when it comes to the bead. I had broken 2x4s all over my driveway! Slide Hammers are the ticket to breaking the bead. Lots of dish soap is the ticket to reseating the bead. At least that was my experience! I think tire irons may just lead to frustration and maybe a busted lip or something.

Anybody had tires put on Aluminum Douglas wheels? I just wonder how yall went about doing it since you can't beat on pretty aluminum wheels.

these tires are the only ones to ever defeat me...simply because I didn't have enough air pressure to inflate them. Mudlites aren't a stiff tire at all you should be fine.

as for the alluminum rims...VERY CAREFULLY. thankfully most of the time the tires pop right off of those rims due to lack of rust.

Not trying to hijack the thread or nothin I was just curious. I am gonna be getting a set of 22-11-8 GBC Gators for my 185s and I was gonna get brand new Douglas Aluminum wheels to put them on also.

Now Im wondering if I should just paint up my stock wheels better, even though I want the pretty aluminums, lol.
