    Time for Surgery!

Well its time for surgery a week from today (Feb 22nd and 23rd). I have been dealing with sinus issues for well over 3 months, gone to tons of doctors, and on tons of meds. Nothing worked so went to a specialist. They have revealed that I have a horrible deviated septum and major sinus infection.
The surgery starts with cutting the bottom lobe of my nose (middle piece). Then they go in and break the septum to line it back up and place air bag system in my nose to hold it straight. They stitch the bottom back up and give me a day of rest. Then go back in tuesday for them to remove the air bags and packing. Then stitch the rest of the nose up and finish with the sinus cavity scrape. After 2-3wks of healing, I hope to be sinus problems free and breathing like a champ.
They say this procedure is an extremely pain deal (I have had sinus surgery before, but not the nose reconstruction). So I am not looking forward to the pain, but ready to be back to normal.............peace

As you see in the pick the septum is like that one and is completely closing my right nostril.

Wow! That sounds pretty awful but with enough painkillers, it should be bearable and the payoff will be worth it. Good luck!

My section chief in the ANG had this very thing done a little over a month ago. He did say it was very uncomfortable but so worth it in the end. Best of luck to ya Scott.

I am going to have this exact same procedure done at the end of this month. I also have 2 cyst's and a tonsil that has to come out as well. I was told the cyst and damaged tonsil was from years of infection. They told me this is a very difficult procedure for adults to go through. It may have to be 2 different surgeries for me since the tonsil complicates things. I was just relieved none of it was cancer. I have a consultation next week.

My boss had this done just a few weeks ago he says it is great. He said it was painful but not that bad. When he talked for the first few days he sounded very nasely (sp?)

I had this done about 4 years ago.. With pain medication it helps, but all of that packing is he most uncomfortable part for me. For me to totally notice a most difference it took about 6 months.. Use lots of saline soultion during the allergy season while healing. Dont let it dry out is the main thing. Good luck!

Well I am alive but in horrific pain. A one hr surgery turned into 3 and half. Doc said it was alot worse than she expected. I hope and pray this pain will be worth it in the end. I must say my nose is obviouslyy weekness. Time to pass out and thanks for prayers and kind words.
I dont know if I have experienced this much pain in my entire life and thats saying alot to mister accident prone. Going in for round 2 this morning and might see if they can give me something else for pain, as these arent cutting it.

Here is my nose packed tight with the stints and packing and air bags
