Remove Coil from Rear Shock Assembly on YTM225DX...

Can the rear coil be removed from the rear shock assembly from a Yamaha YTM225DX?
I want to get the coil powder-coated, but I am unsure of how to remove the coil from the assembly or if can even be done. From what I can tell by looking at it, it is not removable.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

Yes, it is removable. You just loosen the nut, the one on swingarm side. Loosen it until it is about all they way off, and you will see a collar that the shock sits on, above this nut. This collar has a cut out, and will slide right off the shaft once you get the tension off, and then the spring. They both come off from the bottom. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to attempt this tomorrow.
Can you tell me if i have to worry about the spring shooting off and causing damage (aka, pain )
Your sure the threaded part (A) will slip over the shock base (B) so I can remove the spring? Just looks as if it will not...but I assume you've done this before!

Your deffinatly going in the right direction! No, there is no way the spring will come flying off and hurt you. Yes, you just loosen that nut "A" all the way down, that is the lock nut. Next, you want to loosen the large spanner nut (directly above the nut) If you are like me, and dont have a "special" spanner wrench, a large pair of channel lock pliers, or water pump pliers if you will, will do the trick. If you dont have either of them, you can also use a pipe wrench. You most likely will have to clamp the shock in a vise to get a good grip on it, because usually the spanner nut is pretty tight. After you get the spanner nut loosened all the way down, you will see a shim(s) with a cutout that you just pull out, and the spring will come right off. Let me know if you need any other advice. Good luck!
