    Input wanted...

Well what do you guys think, I had a 350x and now a 200x but I still enjoy my 82 atc200 the most. I really want something like it but with a little suspension. I really enjoy the atuoclutch as well. I was thinking of putting this 200x up for trade but I dont know what I want. Anyone have any recomendations? Would a 200x and a 250sx be a fair trade in similar condition? Does the 250sx have the auto clutch? I will put an add in the classifieds if anyone wants to offer a trade.

I would say just get a 200s engine, then use that in your 200x frame.

Can't you just put the 200 engine in the 200X frame? If the 200x's current engine runs good you could sell that off before taking it out so a prospective buyer would have a chance to hear it run. I think you could also get a 200cc auto clutch Lifan and pop it in the 200X. I'd love to have an auto-X, we talked about in in the early 90's when my buddy's brother had an 86 200X and a 84'ish 200S. If we did it we would have been some of the auto-X pioneers.

The 250SX is a fun and mostly bulletproof machine. There are just a few common failure points. I prefer the 86/87 250SX over the earlier because the brake drum seals great and every joint on the swinger/axle tubes has an oring. The o-ring and form-a-gasket #2 seal them up very nice

You can put an auto 200CC (even a 185cc) in your 200X chassis and there a blast!

IDK how anyone could own a 350X and go backwards in terms of machine/suspension/displacement; To each there own though..................

    GLUCK!

EDIT!! - They CAN be a FAIR trade. But esp. if it's an 85 250SX, it had better be in very nice condition. The diff and associated parts (IE - driveshaft/ripped boot) can be tough to find in nice shape and it's allot of money and some special tools to repair it...... Far more moving parts on a 250SX..........................................

Plus with the auto 200X you get disc brakes and better suspension than in the 250SX. Less to go wrong too. Replacing the chain and sprockets a bunch of times is still easier and less costly and easier than redoing that shaft drive set set up even once.

I'm not sure I really want to try to swap motors just for the auto clutch. Which brings me to antother question, is the 200x motor faster than a 200s or any other 200 for that matter?

Yes, In my experience the 200x is faster. I really think it is because you have better control with the clutch shifting and you loose less power. I also have never been a fan of the 250sx. Some people swear by them though. To me, they are just a maintenance nightmare. But to each their own.

I have a an 82 atc200, but up grade the forks to and 83 atc200 setup. If you like that than look for a 85-88 Big red and make it worth your wild.

From what I hear, I may stay away from the 250sx but I think I really wouldnt mind a Big Red. I think I will also try to stick with the chain driven. Can anyone tell me what years/models are chain driven vs shaft driven?

84 was the first year of the shaft drive... 83 and earlier were all hardtails though... The shafty's are great in my opinion. Love my 85 BR
