picked up a 200x and 200m on the cheap today

it is a 1985 200m and what appears to be a 1985 200x. the guy didn't appear to be the most mechanically challenged. the 200m electric start turns over but no spark to the plug. the push start button is broken and he's been shorting it to get it to turn over and using the decompression lever to turn it off. WTH. he thinks it might have a blown fuse when he last attempted to start it but he can't find the fuse box its pretty much a beater bike to use for hunting. love the harley decal. figuring it won't take but $30 in boneyard parts to get it running and ???$$$ to get it right. the 200x is complete and includes a goki starter......that he claims doesn't work. he tried using it attached to jumper cables to his truck. he said it quit working about 2 wks ago because the cdi doesn't rotate. well, i think the motor is shot. the kickstart works perfectly, except that there is no resistance. it isn't slipping, just don't think there is any compression. so, i talked him down some more because of that. it'll either be a good donor bike or i'll build it back up. so.....anybody know where to find 200m fenders and if you can rebuild the starter on the goki? the 200x engine is going to have to be torn down to figure out the problem cause i betting it isn't the cdi that is the culprit of no compression.

Not bad, not bad. Both look like good candidates to fix up

Mud lites on a X.... Hmmm..... Kinda sounds like you may have a stuck exhaust valve or something if there is no resistance in the kicker....
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

Looks like you got lucky with the 200x. The goki starter is worth some money and so is that front tire if it's in good shape. Looks like a good fixer upper though.

I only wanted the 200x but it was a package deal only. The goki starter is only worth some money if I can get it to work. The tires are in good shape all the way around on the 200x. The mudlites are a little worn but still have decent tread left and aren't dry rotted. Will be a good set of tires for a 185 or 200s. For both I paid less than the price of a brand new goki starter

Oh, and stuck exhaust valve is one of the less serious reasons for no compression that I've thought of. Will try to dive in to them next weekend and see if I can get somewhere with them.
