    Rusty Cam

Is it possible to polish the rust off of a cam? Has anyone ever tried it?

the fact that the cam is rusty worries me, since there should be oil circulating that would prevent rust, even when it sits there should be a little residue film to protect it. so this means its been sitting for a long long time, which to me says if the cams rusty then what else is rusty. but if you have looked around or the cam is from another engine then sure why not remove the rust, depending on how deep it is and how smooth the finish will be, take pictures, but i would simply just buy a new one. stuff on ebay is sooo cheap now days.

well how bad is the rust? if its just light surface rust than use some sand paper to take it off, maybe start with 280 grit and end with 400ish.

The cam was a bit rusty on my 90 when I first got it, that's because the whole machine sat outside for many years not running. I Just used the wire brush on my bench grinder to take all the rust off.

    tooo cheap?
look up 350x parts i found a cam on there from a 350x and the guy wanted 75.00.
a top end setup is around 400.00
when you can buy an engine for that much.
the 350x market works really wierd.
    now 200x parts are cheap!
