'83 200x slipping in 3rd

I've been trying to diagnose all the problems with my 200x before I tear it down for a rebuild. One thing that I've noticed is it seems to be slipping in third gear only. Kinda like it'll slip then catch then slip then catch. Almost like the tires are spinning, but they arent. Only does it in third. Would this be a clutch or tranny problem or what? Anyone have this happen to them? Thanks.....Matt

That's strange. I'm no expert, but it seems like if it were the clutch, it would do it in all the gears. On the other hand, something broken in the transmission should be more obvious, like grinding or lurching. It almost has to the the clutch!

Yep missing teeth in the tranny . I woudnt run it to much with all that metal getting into everthing .

That's kinda what I was thinking. I changed the oil today and noticed some shavings. Gonna really have to tear the engine apart. Might have to look into one of the Lifans. Are they as powerful as the stock x engine? Thanks.....Matt

if you go lifan they are comparable in power to stock,but i wouldnt try to build one up.leave it stock.your honda motor sounds like shift forks.maybe put some funds into the honda motor.
