honda 1983 185s air filter

so when i look under the seat where the air filter is (or is supposed to be) i only see a round metal casing with holes. Is this the air filter or is there supposed to be a filter that goes over this? Idk if this is a dumb question but i've seen motors like this before that dont have much to filter the air going through the carb.

It should be a screen cylinder wrapped with an oiled piece of foam.

can i just do this myself or is there an actual foam i have to buy?

I would buy an actual filter, although I bought a trike where an old shirt was used as a filter haha. I should have taken a picture.

I never use an air filter, none of my trikes even have an airbox (yet). I would suggest buying an actual filter.
