    86 250sx rear bearing question

I'm replacing the rear bearings on my 86 250sx and got the left bearing carrier off where those bearings are and the brake housing off on the right side where bearings are on right side, so why dose the book say to take out the axle? Am I missing something?

You don't have to remove the axle if you are solely doing wheel bearings.

Thanks, how in the heck do you get out the races? Mine are a little chewed up.There is a solid wall right behind them, nothing to grab at.

Remove the backing plate - 4 nuts. Smash out bearings, replace.........

Only hit the outer race when pressing in the new bearings.

The bearings popped out easy w/ a screw driver. Not sure what you mean about remove backing plate, its a solid wall of metal behind races. There's nothing to grab on races to get them out that I can see.

^ I'm glad you corrected that, I was ready to go to battle J/K.

Swingarm outer races from what I remember, You have to smash out thin plate behind the bearing, then you can get at it with a long punch. If you leave both plates out, you can drill and tap that center frame tube and grease those bearings; You'll never need new ones again :

If you need outer wheel bearings on the right side, you'll know what I meant. If you need them on the left side, you just unbolt the 4 bolts for the short axle tube and can smash (sorry - TAP.....) them them gently out.......

All this SMASHING...DC are you feeling aggressive tonight? I remember having problems with mine too, but I've since forgotten how I got them out. Since my front tube has zerks installed already, that backing plate must have already been removed.
