Cobra Exhaust on an SX? Good or Bad Idea

I was wondering if anyone here has chosen to go with a Cobra Exhaust on their 250SX? Or, does anyone recommend doing it or staying away from it? I know that it comes down to personal preference in most cases but I'm just trying to get some idea as to what I may be getting myself into. So, Good idea or Bad Idea? Any and all opinions or experiences, good stories or horror stories appreciated. Thanks.

From what I heard the cobra only help in the top end with power. You tend to lose some low end torque

No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

imo, bad idea unless you have 1000 private acres to ride on. I bought one, left in on for 5 minutes and threw it in the garage. do yourself a favor, take off your stock silencer, leave it off and start your bike up. The cobra is probably louder !
bad for the sport, really bad

I Like mine,I don't think its too load, however the paint is junk and bubbles off. If you get one power sand the whole thing down to bare metal and use a header paint, engine paint will burn off to. Napa has or can order the primer for the header paint to use over bare metal-must be primed.Dinnis kirk has the best deal, about 106 shipped.

If your stock exhaust is in good shape , keep it. I have had the cobra on a 350x and a 200x , and imo they are garbage!

I don't care for the cobra pipe and muffler on my 350x. I think it's too loud and it just does not sound good to me. I don't think the power gain is worth it. I was thinking of trying to mod a fmf muffler to work on mine.

Apparently opinions vary, so here's mine: If it's what you want, use it and don't worry what anyone else thinks.

Sound level....louder than stock, but there's a bunch of 4-stroke racing quads running around that will still be louder. They have been responsible for plenty of complaints and closures, themselves.

Quality....paint will come off to a point, but big deal. Refinish it if you need to down the road.

Other pros: Price is reasonable, more power, lighter weight, helps keep one of the few remaining sources of aftermarket parts on board for us and our old machines.

Cons: Well, to be honest, the only one I can think of is that some folks won't like it because it's not one of the rarer old school/ "chic" brands or not NOS OEM....but I wouldn't let that bother me. Good luck either way.

Very loud , OBNOXIOUSLY loud; But, I do have one on my SX so I can't be a hypocrite

Then you can jet it up and drill holes in the AB lid.

If you go easy on the throttle around peoples homes, it's not terrible. But if your main riding areas are near homes, or the paths are next to them, you may want to look for a Supertrapp.........

Well, thank you to everyone here who put their opinions in. Seems to be sort of a split decision. I appreciate all of the help and honesty too. Now, I'll just have to finally make a decision for myself but I'll be sure to take everyone of your comments into consideration. Again, thanks for all of your help. Was exactly what I was looking for, but then again, I guess you and I both knew that.
