trying to work out a few kinks in my 350x

a couple little nagging things i wanna take care of , but have questions about.
my chain is tight, but if you do a massive fishtail it still throws it off sometimes. im wondering if that could be the chain, sprocket or slop in my bearrings somewhere that makes it only do it on a fishtail.
i was alos wondering how many psi to put in the front shocks and if anyone has an extra shock cap they would sell.
also sometimes it backfires and sometimes it doesnt. was wondering if anyone thought that it could be because where the header meets the exhaust pipe, i dont have the best seal with the clamp so maybe its sucking in air and burning it off?

As far as the chain goes, I was having the same problem. Ended up being a loose swing arm pivot bolt. I let it go so long that it widened up the frame holes. I'd get the chain tight, but when turning/jumping it would loosen momentarily.

As far as I know you don't run any psi in the front forks. The valve is to bleed off pressure that may build up.

ah ha. ok . my buddy was jumping it today (clearing a 20ft table top and landing on the downslope. it was suh-weet!) he said its real smooth but that if you could somehow stiffen up the front it would be even better. so we put some air in the one cap thats not broken. i should prob go let it out

Your chain must be worn axle or swing bearings and oir could be a bent sprocket. Sometimes, even a chain has a bad spot for whatever reason. Make sure to run the case saver and hopefully figure it out...........

Whats wrong with your exhaust seal? Is a stud or two broken?? They aren't fun to fix but a good mechanic can do it.......

Otherwise, backfires are unburnt fuel. A loose exhaust can cause that but normally it will pop on deceleration if it's leaking there.

The forks should have little or NO air, those schrader valves are to release built up air. It would be great to disassemble the forks and clean them up. Put in fresh fluid, maybe heavier depending on your weight and enjoy

thanks dirtcrasher. i guess i should just order a new chain and replace both sprockets any recomendations? yeah i should have mentioned that it only does it on deceleration and i also have that darn 2stroke silencer on it. i just need to reclamp it where the header meets the rest of the pipe (right near the carb) . i just let the air out of the shock (oops). how hard is it to take em apart? where do you start ? can you re use the seals?

BTW- im sreiously going to order a new chain and sprockets so any help would be appreciated. i also want to change one sprocket to make acceleration better (i dont need to do 75, i'd rather take off faster) i assume that woud be the rear?

I have that exact set on my 350x now. I've run it for about a year and have no real complaints, however I almost only ride it in the sand. That is a non o ring chain which means it will require more maintance than an o ring chain. If you want something that will last you a while I'd go for a slightly higher quality setup. For my application it works for me and I keep my old chain and sprockets with me when I go riding in case I have an issue. You can contact that company and probably ask them to switch the sprockets out for better bottom end power also.

I would look for a D.I.D or brand name chain. I haven't ever used a generic chain but if it snaps it can bust your cases. Sunstar makes good steel sprockets for a pretty good price. A motorcycle/ATC/ATV shop could get them locally for around the same price as E-bay.

You can change the oil in the forks without taking them apart. Do you have a manual yet?

Some EBAY stuff is nice, other stuff is generic cheap stuff and it shows........

Even a non o-ring chain, I'll spend 80$ on a good one. Another 50$ for steel front and rear sprockets or a superior hard anodized aluminum rear sprocket. There's lots of types of aluminum, some is soft and light and some is light but nearly as tough as a steel sprocket.

On a 350X, I like a quality o-ring chain. I've never run an X ring chain...............

What does 1lb of weight savings do for a 350X thats nearly 500lbs including the rider??

I'm a RIDER, I want stuff to hold up for years but I'm all for new tech stuff adapted to the 350X that outperforms the OEM stuff..............

im pretty sure the only reason it was coming off is because of my swingarm issues in that other thread. trying to get that sorted out right now

EK and Regina make some really bulletproof chain. I am running that on all my trikes and they do good. EK is fairly cheap and deep greased for long life. I have never seen a Regina fail. There is also a company that makes SIGMA series chain, the side plates are heat treated and made of Hardened steel. Ive had good luck with Honda streetbike sprockets on my 350X, I just mill and machine them out to fit, and gearing is very flexible, they really hold up to abuse and are plentiful in local junkyards/parts shops. I keep the bolt pattern, just mill the crecents out for fit.
