By cutting it apart and hollowing it out, not only does it make it much louder, but it de-creases performance. There should be glass packing in the muffler, which creates back pressure. My guess is that it will also make the wheeler run LEAN. You may want to increase the size of the main jet, or better yet, buy a new muffler. You can use basically any muffler, even one off a dirtbike as long as it looks relatively close. I run a 1990 YZ 250 muffler on my tecate, I just turned it upside down so the mount is out of the way, then used an small 1'' I believe, exhaust "U" clamp. It works for me, keeps it a little quieter, and seems to help in the performance department. Good luck with whatever you decide!
