85 ytz250 Peace pipe not so peacefull?

So I was hearing this really wierd rattling sound coming from the back of my trike, so when I got home I discovered that the silencer was just barely holding on. when i removed it I found that if i tipped it side to side something let go inside of it! what I did maybe was a no no, but i cut the thing apart dumped out the guts and welded it back together! Havent run it yet but could this be a problem? idunno maybe just loud? what do you guys think?

By cutting it apart and hollowing it out, not only does it make it much louder, but it de-creases performance. There should be glass packing in the muffler, which creates back pressure. My guess is that it will also make the wheeler run LEAN. You may want to increase the size of the main jet, or better yet, buy a new muffler. You can use basically any muffler, even one off a dirtbike as long as it looks relatively close. I run a 1990 YZ 250 muffler on my tecate, I just turned it upside down so the mount is out of the way, then used an small 1'' I believe, exhaust "U" clamp. It works for me, keeps it a little quieter, and seems to help in the performance department. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Bye bye back pressure........ I think you might want another silencer/repacked.

2 pieces fell out, 1 that ran along half the length of it, the other sat upright like a baffle, im geussing thats where id get the back pressure from. my parts guy said he dosent know of anything that might mount the same, so i get to modify something somewhere along the way? the glass fiber stuff all stayed intact too.
