    my 515x

i finally got this project finished up and running. we'll see how it holds up now. i started with a 94mm 04-05 450r piston, which has the same dia. wristpin as the 350x, cut reliefs for the 350x location, and profiled the dome to fit the chamber(not much). then had powroll do their 6mm stroke for 74mm. i had to mill the width of the small end of the rod slightly to fit into the 450r piston. the 450r has a shorter compression height than the 92mm i was running before, so i had them shorten the rod less to help keep the rod angle decent. plus its ~40gms lighter than my previous piston. i used the xr500 sleeve cut down to fit in the 350x cases. had some copper headgaskets made up from cometic from before so i opened one up to 94mm. final displacement is 513.5cc, compression is 12.2:1 currently. its probably way undervalved now, but its a work in progress. have some pics if anyones interested. long live the X!

That is SICK! I'm glad to finally see someone use the newer style 'pancake' pistons in an older motor. Cory Sprock and I had been talking about it when discussing his Big Bore kits for the 350X he is working on.

Since you think the head might be a limiting factor now, search around in this forum some more and see if you can find the thread with the information on using the FT500 Ascot cylinder head. The valves are huge on them, much bigger than the 350X and its not a whole lot of work to put it on. If you can swing what you've already done, the head swap shouldn't be bad.

Yea, i've seen the FT500 head conversion post, doesn't look too bad. fortunately i've got one to try soon. i wanted to make single changes at a time to evaluate their effectiveness. i also scored some +2 350x intakes from web on clearance so i'd like to try them also. one thing with these slipper skirt pistons with longer strokes, there does seem to be some audible slap at idle due to rock in the bore. i'll tear it down after a couple of races and check everything. it sure does run strong though! what kind of piston kits are you guys going to make?
