I have two neighbors that have sportsman 400's. The neighbor kid tried racing one of them on a atc 200 and got wooped. The the 200 was not runing right, so that was a gimmie. I have a 1985 250sx with 22" mudbusters and I was wondering if I could take him. Both of our machine are stock motor wise. Let me know what you think. THANKS

I think you are wasting your time. A 250cc 4 stroke against a 400cc 2 stroke. If I was you I would be wearing goggles, so your eyes are protected from his dust.

toyota200x you are thinking of the older explorers and older sportsman maybe, the current model (has been for years) is a 400cc 4 stroke. If it is the 4 stroke model and not modded I think you have a very good shot, but it will probably be close. Those mosters are notoriously heavy and underpowered for their weight. Don't even think about a 500ho or higher though. if you race him on loose terain he may have the advantage of all four wheels grabbing the ground so think about that too.

this 650 4x4 quad was killing modded 400ex's and banshees. my 250r killed it thoughsome of those big utility quads are getting pretty fast.
BTW: that is 250sx on my 250r

Hell yeah! This farmer i know has a 600 Grizzly yammy and that flys on acceleration but the top end is slow as crap!some of those big utility quads are getting pretty fast.

Yes...you got that right. The new Praire 700 has a top speed of 68 according to Dirtwheels (for comparison...the Raptor is only 3-4 MPH faster at 71-72) And the utilities are some of the fastest accelerating machines out there too.

Yes I am talking about the 400 sportsman. It is a 400 four stroke. I don't think I mentioned anything about it being a two stroke. Well keep the comments comming.

Mmm...i'm wondering if the sportsman 400 has the same acceleration than a honda fourtrax 300...cuz I raced against my dad's fourtrax 300 (I have a stock 250SX ) and i won all the way on the acceleration...but he was a lil faster than me on top speed...he won by about one trike length on a 500m track...so if the sportsman has a better acceleration than the fourtrax, it's gonna be pretty close on the acceleration...if you try it out, good luck !

If you two aint bettin any money on it then I say go ahead and race him. I think it would be pretty close, but you will never know until you try. Good luck...and don't let the trikers down

Shoot I think 250SX_rider needs a new sx cause mine whoops the crap out of fourtrax 300's all the time. Do u mean 300ex? Go for it the sx is my favorite atc.....so far
