i got a free 1973? john deere 100 a couple years ago from my uncle it did cut grass but some thing broke on the deck. havent touched it since but you gave me some inspiration here. my dad has a john deere 430 compact tractor. these things are like hondas you just can't kill them

It has the 18hp Onan 2cly gas motor, the guys on a tractor site I started going to call that motor a 20 year motor.....I guess mine is a 24 year motor so far...lol

Last night I got the fenders painted and today I called dad (who had no idea I painted it) to come over and help me put the fenders on. He was all wound up seeing shine again...lol All I'm waiting for is my deck part and I have new anti slip foot things comeing....basicly grip tape.






After 20+ years of big people using this thing the seat was destroyed. It leaned to the left bad and had broken bolts and brackets. I added this leaf spring looking spring to it to act like a helper spring on a truck. It came off my old tractor and really made it feel nice again.

That's pretty cool looking. I think you should put a grant steering wheel on there though just to jazz it up a little bit. Can you get the chrome hub caps for those wheels too?

You know, that thought had crossed my mind about a steering wheel.....hmmmmm

I have seen the chrome hub caps on these tractors but this one never had them. I don't know if a JD dealer sells them or people just use them off something else.

I don't see the beverage holder either! LOL You are slipping man. LOL I can't believe you haven't machined anything for it either. I bet HRE could make you a nice chromoly frame for that and you could drop in a 350x engine. That would be a sleeper wouldn't it?

OH I did use my lathe a good bit makeing new bushings for the deck wheels and a few other things. More pics to come with my first mod to this thing....and yes I used my lathe for it as well...lol

I added these solid stainless steel handles to the fenders. I noticed alot of new tractors had them so I figured I'll throw some on. I used my lathe to make the large stainless washers I have under the handles.

you can still buy chrome hub caps to fit 8 in and 12 in rim. if you want some but cant find them lmk i may be able to hook you up. the tractor looks great!
