83 Yamaha DX vs 85 DXR

I went and looked and drove these two bikes today. I was TOLD the DX was a 1986 model. Upon inspecting the bike, I looked behind the headlight along the steering column and found out the bike was actually a 1983. I drove the 83 DX and the 85 DXR. The DXR was bigger in engine size and body appearance. I had the two bikes up close and you could tell the 85 was a little larger bike. I also felt a noticable power difference in the 1985 vs 1983. These two bikes are owned by the original owner and no mods have been done to my knowledge.

For you Yamaha guys, did Yamaha beef up the engine from the 83 to 86 models? I was going to buy the yellow (what I thought ) 86 model, but opted to pass due to the price and fact that it's not what I was looking for.

post up the pictures, things just dont add up. First the DXR, as far as i know there is no Yamaha DXR. there is a DX and a DR but both are 225's. If its a DR it will have reverse if not its a DX. As of size difference i would geuss ones a 200 and the other is a 225 either DX or DR.

the dx was probally a 200 or 200e.was it shaft driven? with e start
