1985 250r HELP !!!!!
I have an 1985 250r that starts pinging or knocking after it gets warm or after wicking it for a short distance... It sounds like an octane issue thats the best way to describe it but i run 93 with a booster and still doesnt seem to help.I have been told to check the jetting and also the timing but i was wondering if anyone has had this to happen to their trike before and what it was .Thanks in advance for any and all help that can be offered.

do a compression check first... if its high then thats your problem,, if not then its time to look elsewhere.

i agree with above,if you have a preingnition problem you will grenade your motor.get this fixed before you do major damage.also what mix are you running

im running klotz ,4 oz to gal, i just had it bored 60 over and put new piston & rings in and counter bal. bearings.Today it only done it when i opened it up for a min but i can just ride it for ever and it will not do it. Also, after it does that if you just set and idle it will quit like it doesnt get enough fuel then it does.

WOW CAN'T MAKE ANY SENSE OUT OF THAT!!!! first it does then it doesen't ? then it doesen't then it does?????? maybe step back and take a breath ,, then one thing at a time... what jets are in the carb?

First thing Check your Spark Plug, Make sure it's Brown in color or Black. If it's not your running Lean.
Can you post a Video of your problem.

check for an air leak
check the ignition timing with a timing light. (connect the timing pickup to the bikes spark plug wire and the power to any battery) make sure its firing on the F mark
Ive never seen low octane fuel by itself cause a problem, thats a 8.5:1 (low) compression engine (unless your engine is high compression...)
Mines tuned very lean and knocks like a sewing machine, but D*^N it makes power.
