Atc 110 not running right

Hey, I am new to the forums. I registered because I have a Honda ATC 110 (83-84 not quite sure) and it has a lot of problems that I am not sure of how to fix. When ever I took it out the machine would backfire and sputter a bit, and then it would shut off and after a couple of minutes it would start back up and do the same thing so I tore the carb apart to clean it and once I got it back together, it was doing the same thing.

Also, I cannot get the idle right, still not sure how to adjust it because when I tore the carb apart I made the mistake of removing the throttle stop and pilot air screws. I looked in my haynes manual and it still wasn't clear to me how I am to adjust the idle. I am kinda afraid to mess with it because I don't want to get the mixture wrong and burn something out.

Any advice to help me remedy these problems would be greatly appreciated.
