Big red headache

Hi guys, I have a 84 big red 200es just rebuilt the carb with a new kit and on cold starts I have a Lot of exhaust smoke coming from carb area as well as exhaust pipe she idles really weak and stalls..any thought s to remedy this???

It can be one of 2 things.. your engine is burning oil and needs a new set of valve seals and rings or needs bored out with new rings and piston if the smoke is blue and smells like burning oil. The other problem could be it is burning too rich on gas and that would be black smoke. You said you rebuilt the carb? the carb could be flooding the enigine causing it to smoke and stall. Did your rebuild kit come with a new float and is it leaking fuel out of your overflow tube?? that could be the problem with flooding. also check the jet screw directly underneath the carb, look under your intake and you will see it,it's a brass jet screw. screw it all the way in then unscrew it 2 and a half turns , that might be the problem to. if you have any more questions just ask, with enough tinkering we can fix your problem

are you talking about the jets inside the floatbowl? they should be screwed in and not unscrewed at all, am i misunderstanding something?
