225dx will only run with choke on

what would cause it to only run with the choke on. as soon as i take the choke off it dies.

Plugged idle jet. Remove the carb, remove the float bowl, look for a casting that sticks down into the fuel with a tiny plugged jet. Those brass jets are usually just a press in piece. You can clean it with carb cleaner and a strand of fine copper wire.

It's not really a choke, I believe it is called an enrichment circuit and lets in more fuel. While a choke would let in less air. Grizzlypeg is right on in diagnosis. Lots of little passages to clean out.
