Dude, if the seller really thought it was worth $1000, don't you think he would have at least covered it up instead of letting it rot down? Maybe....he should have at least trimmed the grass growing growing in the seat foam.

He'd have to get his heart right before I would buy it.....and $1000 for that aint right.

Yeah, it looks to have an axle and 10" wheels/Hoosiers(that may be dry rotted), but those a four-figure machine do not make in my book....especially when the rest of the machine needs so much attention.

For comparison: I traded around for my '85 R.....running good, but needing plastic/cosmetic work. I effectively gave about $750 for mine looking a bit rough, but I house, maintain and treat mine like I've got $3000 in it. It's not "nice" by the standards of many, I'm sure, but I still care for it.

Actually there were several silencers that would fit the stock pipe as well as their brand counterpart and other brand pipes. DG(early round steel, early round aluminum, and the current aluminum oval) , Richter Privateer, Answer Equalizer, etc.... as well as others would interchange. Basanni is the main brand that come to mind that were(in many cases) built to work with their brand pipe only.

I guess that's two different sales philosophies at work. Sell more silencers because they can fit more pipes, or, make more off the silencer because nobody else's will fit your pipe....hmmm

As a matter of fact, the guy I talked to at ESR said that my DG silencer would work fine with their ATC5 pipe. The money I save by not having to buy an ESR silencer almost pays for my porting.

hmmmm *stroking beard* I am going to look now for some type of silencer then, my 85 one is trashed and plugged bad.
Tex, I would do a trade IMHO, I traded my old Bolt-Action for my first 350X, turned out it needed a clutch, but my rifle needed a bolt. It might turn out good for you, who knows.

I agree with Kasey. There are loads of parts there. Sure they all need attention but I'd be willing to give him a few hundred for it. I paid $400 for this 81R and had to rebuild-replace almost everything. But it was a fun project.

Dont do it....its a trick...I am just about done with my 86 Tecate and it was the most frustrating project ever.......but.....riding one....wow...cant believe I ever enjoyed riding a 4X4 quad...simple light fun...like its supposed to be...I think he should pay you to take it...you should be able to deduct rebuilding it on your taxes....like community service...or restoring artwork....thats it!!!

Well I talked to the guy come to find out i knew him and his family. It was his dads bike to begin with and thats were the price comes in. He says it will start with a new plug and carb kit but i know better since its set for 5 years and like i said i kicked on it and it didnt move. But any ways they need the money because his dad now has cancer and has been out of work so thats were the price was. I told theres no way in hell me or anyone else would give a grand for it and he said well it can sit there and rot for all i give a sh!t. Then we realized we knew each other and I knew his dad so things kinda changes a bit he said at the least they might take $500 for it and i told him i would give $300. He then said hey you never know if you have cash in your hand and my dad wants to get rid of it he may sell it for less than $500.

And apparently nobody has given a about it in years. Otherwise, it could've been worth more than the asking price.

For him to concede that they may take $500 (half the price) just tells you how overinflated it was to begin with. Their situation sucks(cancer and all), but sentimental value doesn't always equate to dollar value.

If you can get it for a price you are comfortable with and take the project and the process on, good luck. Get her going and you're going to love it.

HAHA $1000? That's gotta be a joke! The bikes here in CA sell for about $1300-1600 with extremely low hours and all original...I see you offered $300, that's much more realistic and I would pay $300 for it.

300 is not bad, figure about 400 to completely redo the motor and thats including all new bearings and seals, piston rings, bore and crank, I paid 600 for mine running but way rough only to do leak down test and realize crank seals were bad and I figured why its apart lets do it all. Right no I have about 1500 in mine including new plastics, coplete engin rebuild top to bottom, v force reeds, front bearings and seals, new oem clutch perch and lever, new font brake system, seat rubbers, exhaust mounts, shop manual honda one not clymer, chain, throttle and clutch cable, complete gasket kit, carb kit, ignition switch and other odds and ends, It all just depends on how much you like projects, and how patient you are, but its totally worth the money pit it will become cause at the end you can step back and look at what you have done and created.. just to smile its great .... I hihly recommend it to anyone, I will also addpeople on here are great and very helpful both at finding parts and giving advice Thanks guys for all you have helped out so far

yeah i really want it just gotta see what they will do. I completely redid mt 85 tecate and 82 250r only to sell them on ebay later. if i get this machine i would never sell it unless i found a nicer one for a good price. I hate waiting to find things and if i knew were one was at a reasonable price in decent shape i wouldn't even think twice about this one but i don't so its just about my only option for a 85-86 250R.
