How much is an 1985 Tecate worth?

A guy here has a 85 Tecate for sale.
    The good:
    - He repainted the frame 2 years ago with 2 stage auto paint, real nice job
    - It runs strong, starts easy
    - new front and rear fenders
    - new clutch and cables

    The bad:
    - needs tires
    - he painted the gas tank white so it will take hours of sanding to make it look good again.
    - he put a smaller carb on it from a 4 stroke dirt bike, but it comes with the stock carb that just needs to be rebuild.
    - the guy that owned it before him had some kind of mishap involving the front brakes working properly, so he removed them and threw them away (some people).

He hasn't done any engine work to it other than the clutch. This is the only picture I have of it.

I'd offer him $500 for it, if the motor is in sound running condition. The rear grab bar looks bent, it may be the rear frame members. I can tell you where the front brake line is, for some reason it's attached to the rear caliper. :-)

    1982 ATC70 (Lifan manual 125)

Yeah I noticed the brake line. The grab bar is home made. How hard are parts to get for them? Its 150 miles away so I haven't got to ride it yet. Does the Tecate make the 200X seem like a kids toy?

Oh yes, it definitely makes the 200x look slow. Parts are fairly easy to find given ebay and craigslist. There are a lot of 84-85 Tecates and parts out there. Last weekend the wife and I were at the dunes. I was leading on the tecate and she was following on the 200x. I kept having to stop and wait on her to catch up. Later that night I asked her why she kept falling back, and if she was afraid to go fast. She said afraid hell i was in 5th gear trying to keep up. I never even got out of 3rd gear and was just keeping a leisurely pace. The difference is large.

That's what I figured. I can get the Tecate pretty cheap and I was watching those dune videos of s and it got me thinking, I need something faster. The 200X I picked up last fall really wants some down time and TLC in the garage anyways.

Well I sold my 84 for $550 and it had 2 new sets of plastics, sets of tires, ran perfect, needed very little, spare parts, ect.

Also this is Michigan and toys aren't worth much here right now. Bunch of dreamers on Craigs asking big bucks while MI is hurt finacially.

Low ball him mercilessly, that Tecate has been on Craigs for quite some time now to the point of being expired and still unsold. It hasn't sold for a reason.

first always offer less , second it looks decent, grab bar and brake parts are cheap. i have a 84 tecate and a 85 250r and the tecate is like a unleashed animal rough, raw, scary and powerfull, it is hard to keep the front down on the tecate. the r is a smooth very powerfull controlable machine still fast but not scary,

Yeah there is a lot in Michigan right now for cheap. I wish I could get it all. But I'm itching for something faster and then I can ride while the 200X gets some attention.
