Trying to make custom pipe work

My KLT185 came with no muffler so Recently I just stuck a harley 1200 sportster can on it and boom way better low end power and still sounds ruthless. I tried to use a high temp rubber boot to mate the 1 1/2 harley pipe to the 1in header pipe and like I thought it would it melted. Where the heck can I find a fitting that I dont have to weld because these header pipes love to rust out. Im on my 2nd since I got it 3 years ago. Any Ideas? and no I dont want to put a different exhaust on it because mine was free.

any auto parts stores should have an adapter then put a clamp on the head pipe and the muffler .. ive dun that to my auto x before .. works pretty good.
