I was desperate to have a ride on it today, so I modified the old 110 manifold and managed to get it to fit with a slight rise in the rear end of the tank. Threw on the exhaust, wiring, and chain - she fired up first time, I set off and... bang! the chain snapped... :-/
The way the rear suspension is at the moment, means when swing arm goes up the chain gets gradually tighter. I guess that's what you meant xr132 - another reason to move the shock mount farther down the arm?

Today I moved the bottom shock mount a couple of inches down the swing arm and raised the subframe up a bit to compensate. It's now got that V shape back that pit bike frames always have, and when I put the seat back on, its too high, I see why everyone else's ends up like a bar stool now... Think I might have to lower the swingarm pivot mount instead.... :

Drove all the way out to the nearest motorbike shop to buy a new longer chain today, only to find when I got back that it's the wrong size, so I still haven't got to ride this thing

    hello
i dont claim to be a expert but dont the location of the swing arm bolt need to be higher up like inline with the motor sprocket? when i modded my 185s with a 200x rear i put it to low and it threw the chain and gave it a hell of a tight spot. i moved it to where it was almost even with the rear sprocket and that solved my prob.

did u place it where it is because you were setting up stance and trying to get more ground clearance?
    love the build!!!!!

I'm no expert either, and if there is any out there, then they're keeping quite about it. I initially set it up so it had a good amount of suspension travel with the right seat height, good ground clearance and not too long a wheelbase. I didn't notice the chain would hit on the swingarm until I put one on.

The rear shock I have is designed for a pit bike and should be almost vertical - parallel to the upright part of the frame, that way it has a huge amount of leverage on it, as I move it farther down the swing arm there is less and less leverage, making the suspension harder and harder.
I'm thinking to put the shock mount and seat back as it was and instead move the swing arm pivot down so it's in line with the chain. Can anyone tell me of any other potential problems that might cause?

a spring loaded chain tensioner would solve this.

seems like it would allow you to run your chain looser at rest (+ you on it ) and have enough length when at full travel and a better slider and roller for your chain to run on would also be some thing to look into

Didn't get anything done on it today. I'll get back to the bike shop tomorrow and get a 420 chain and see what it looks like then, but it definitely needs a good tensioner and new slider. I have a roller, just need to fab up a bracket and spring. Not going to make any more alterations until I ridden it and got the feel of it.

Nice Fabrication work! pretty sweet trial and error build! inspiring to all of us cheap builders lol! but seriously nice job so far!

ID:	96495This is PK racing's simple chain tensioner from a rear suspension kit for a 185s. It's always worked super.

Got the right chain this morning, threw together a rough chain tensioner and finally got to ride it Hasn't lost any of the fun, the suspension's just made it much better. Couldn't really go for it though as the brake is hardly working - looks like the cable isn't long enough now that the wheelbase is longer.
Need to spend some time now working out all the little niggles and decide what changes need to be made before tearing it down for finishing and paint, then the final build up. Will post some pictures when it's all done.

Neither the atc70 or atc110 manifolds I have fit with the new frame - can anyone suggest one that might fit this or a work around?

Also I was hoping my spare 110 chain would fit with the extra length but its 3 or 4 links short, so I might have to borrow a few link from my 110 for a while...
On mine we cut the intake manifold and rewelded it at an angle that allowed it to fit fine. It was about a 75 degree angle. The carb jutted off to the side like a Harley. It was out of the way and looked cool as well.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to have to do. I've ordered a CT90 manifold, (which is the closest looking match to what I need) and a few low temperature aluminium welding rods so I can cut and modify it if necessary.

Looks great! Have a look at this adjustable manifold plate before you do any cutting. http://dratv.com/12po10himato.html

Someone else suggested a carb spinner so I made one up myself but it unfortunately didn't help - it makes the manifold even higher. The angle of most manifolds mean it hits the frame or tank at every turn. Need one with a very sharp angle that's about medium length, the CT90 looked about the best candidate. Post is really slow to here so it'll be a week before I'll have the parts to try it.

Ran into another problem today while making up a chain tensioner - the chain was so loose that the tensioner pushed it up against the bottom of the swingarm, so I took out 2 more links (the minimum possible) and then the chain was really tight and caused the rear sprocket to wobble and pulled apart the split link. The only way out of this I can see is to slightly shorten the swing arm... Anyone else come up against this?
