Oh great, I wondered if there was something like that - a lot easier the shortening the swing arm :-)
WHAT ABOUT SPROCKET CHANGES TO GET THE DIAMETERS CLOSER? ATC70 has a 35 or 36 rear sprocket,, if your using 35 ADD a link and go with a 36 or vis versa since i don't have chain adjusters on 70 swingarms i use sprocket diameters ,,
^ I have had the same issue.... The halflinks I bought looked good but both broke.
You have to shorten it, make the chain length adjustable and or redesign your auto-tensioner.
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country
I didn't know there are 2 different rear sprocket sizes, I thought about changing the front but it's already very tight to the engine casing and I didn't want to mess up the gear ratios.
What's the point of the rubber rear sprocket drive connector thingy, it's all a bit worn, can it easily be converted to a direct drive?
There are a few sprocket sizes for the 70s. The rubbers in the rear drive are supposed to cussion the drivetrain from shock loading. The rubber inserts can still be purchased if they are worn or you could convert a brake drum similar to how the disk brake conversion is done as the splines are the same on both sides of the axle. The only other option to get rid of the rubber inserts would be to use an axle out of another bigger trike, this would also help with stability by widening the rear. I'm still thinkin about makin a r55 style swinger as i think that tube style looks sweet and the ball joints allow for adjustment of the swingarm length to sort out chain length problems.

I pulled off the rear sprocket this morning and it's a 35T, the rubber bits are totally mashed now after riding it with a very tight chain yesterday. Looking at it I reckon it would be quite easy to bolt the sprocket straight to the aluminium drive that holds the rubber bits - easier for me than trying to find another brake drum. Anyone done that before?
I like the r55 swingarm but if I build another it'll be like most quad swingarms that go inside the rear of the frame, not on the outsides so theres no way it can interfere with the chain.
The last couple of days I've been working out all the little faults and finishing off;
Shortened the swing arm by quarter inch and now it's the perfect length for the chain.
Bolted the rear sprocket directly to the drive hub, makes it a lot more responsive - wheelies galore.

Made up a sliding seat mount so I can use the kick start, works really well
Still need to make a catch but the bit of rope did OK for today.
Gave her a real hard test drive around the fields, and WOW is it fun!

Wow amazing job mate!
I only just found this build and its awsome!
Had I found it earlier I would have told you that your swing arm pivot has to be inline between the rear axle and the front sprocket shaft so that way the chain only gets looser from travel either way. It seems thats how its ended up anyway.
As for the intake manifold, did you try any of the china minibike manifolds?
The USD forks are awsome too by the way.
Thought of upping the horsepower yet?
Here is one done in Australia by the expert mad scientist mart.

As soon as I tried to put a chain on it I realised they should all be in line, I've got the swing arm set up now so that when I'm sat on it everything lines up perfect. It's really worth thinking about the chain length when your making up a swing arm - a 420 chain has 1/2" links so I needed a length that ends in a 1/4" or 3/4", it's now 12-3/4" centre to centre.
The engine in it is a beefed up CT110, it's already dangerously fast and so much fun that she leads you on into doing things you know you shouldn't, dont think I'd trust myself with a 140 in it...
I still haven't sorted the manifold properly, I got the CT90 one I'd ordered yesterday but is different to the picture of what I ordered so I'm going to have to try something else, I'll check out minibike ones. Thanks.
I was watching that threat but it seemed to stop, any progress on it?
I was given a complete pit bike with electric start the other day when I was at a friends house. Very tempting to do this.
This took up the time

how exactly did you do the drive hub mod? did you just drill holes in the sprocket and hub? does anyone know of any negative effects that could result from this? Im thinking of doing this and just want some more info before i start. thanks
Ah yeah, I saw that too but forgot to go back and see if there was any progress, looks like a real beasty.
I didn't drill the sprocket, I ground off the rivets that held on those square pegs (that go inside the rubber drive thingy), then lined the sprocket up against the back of the drive hub, marked through the old rivet holes, drilled and bolted. It's made it much more responsive, every other 3 wheeler has a direct drive so I doubt it can be that bad.
