I just purchased a DG sunburst head for my 81 R. The head is painted black, I was wondering if anyone knew a way to remove the paint and not remove the gold anodized finish underneath. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Cannot be sure on how to remove, sandblasting/acetone would likely remove both the paint and anno.
But I'm curious as to what the head had over stock. Never heard of one til now?
The DG gold head had bigger fins over stock to assist in cooling. It also had a slightly shallower dome to increase compression a bit. You could always restore the head to original by having it anodized gold again, that would be the way to go if you want it to look the way I think you do. Im not sure how much it would cost...

Dupli-Color makes Metalcast that imitates the anodizing look, Idk if its high heat, but looks very good and matches well.

Support Scrapthraher Customs!!! Home of the Three Wheel Outlaws! PM me if you need a head rebuilt, valves cut, head milled or lapped!!!!!
Oven cleaner will probably remove both, but you could leave it on a few minutes, wash it off and see whats up............
I'd just repaint the prick myself unless it's a garage queen. It probably got RODE and the anodizing may be in rough shape, maybe thats why he painted it.
THANK YOU 3WW for hitting "ENTER" when I hit TAB. It's getting sickening, BUT, I still love the board![]()
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country
If you need it annodized later on, a dust finish on a part that size should only run you $20 or less. I used to get things anno'd all the time when I built custom paintball guns. Polished finish may be a little more unless you polish it yourself first.
