Question Plastic Durability + Looks.....Please chime in! ;-)

    Hello,

I haven't posted in quite some time as my trike (85 200x) has been inoperable for well over a year

But I have now sent it into the shop to get fixed

So now, I am wanting to help its looks a little bit. It needs new plastics and I was thinking of going all black. However, someone just put in their post that black scratches easily?

As durability goes, is black, white or red better for holding up in the long run?

I want to get away from red but I also don't want to be buying plastics again for another decade or so.

Your thoughts would be very helpful.

    Black is my first preference

White would be my second choice

Red would be my last choice

Thank you for giving my post a minute of your time.

White is the easiest to keep nice, then red.

I was just looking at the black plastics on ebay. I was wondeing about the black plastics too. I do agree the white would be easiest and then the red, with black being hardest to keep "clean". Don't forget to put a 85-86 250R front fender on it. Makes the 200x look much better in my opinion. Can you still get black 250R front fenders?

1979 ATC110 (Bandito frame and forks, Turbo wheels, disc braked)
    1982 ATC70 (Lifan manual 125)

Thank you for your replies ;-)

Dcreel: You are right the 250r front fender would look nice. I did get (awhile back) a carbon fiber 85/86 headlight shroud in one of the group buys here. I still need the headlight though lol.

Please keep the comments coming, I really do listen to you guys/gals. ;-)

My kids kick & scuff the white fenders every time they get on & off the 200x, and the white hides it well, but everyone has red & white. Go with you're gut, black would be rare and way more sexy. (building a auto-x for my 8 year old little girl and she'll have all black to be different)
    83' 200x (son's). 85' 200 auto-x & 85' 125m (daughters). 84' Tecate(?). 85' KXT Tecate (mine!, mine!, mine!.)+ some others but don't feel like typing them in.

It might be sexy (if you like black) for a week, then it'll look beat and years old.

These fenders are factory R 86 R fenders bought in the 90s. They still turn heads and will never fade or looked scatched like black.

She asked about duability....white will be the best hands down. And the carbon fiber headlight would look trick with white IMO.

The 85' tri-z sat outside for about 15 years, and is faded, like swigin said, but old plastics can be polished and restored. Also, Trikes are made to be rode, show-&-shine are nice, but wear and tear shows it's real.

go with red, they dont show scratces as bad or dull in color bad. white can get dirty quick around there ya boots go from scuffs and deirt makes i tan.

like swigin said black is gonna turn dull and greyish in not much time at all. i like the 200x's in the white and red colors, black dont look right on them or white unless it has a blue frame

do black and white, maybe white where fenders are genuinely more vulnerable. but a combo of the 2 could look cool.
but red does hold up great, i have owned red, white, blue, grey, and yellow. red does the best for me. my whites have always found a way to get stained.

    Other options?

Oldskool, swiggin, & mr_rpm know their stuff, they have thousands of years of experience between them (mabee not that much, but it's easy to respect that kind of knowledge!). I remembered another option, but know nothing about them- syko has lowpro fiberglass fenders, that can be painted any color. So the finish should hold up as good as it was painted I spose'?? Found these on 3wheel.org (won't show them to my 8 year old or I'll be changing the paint scheme on auto-x project. Just liked this trike.
