Unhappy Something is seriously wrong with my trike

    Hey,

Earlier today I checked the oil in my 86 Yamaha Tri-moto 225 and noticed that the oil was a bit low.

Now, I managed to find some 10w30 so I put a full bottle in. Please note that I have never done this before.

I then went riding around my property on and off through the day. Well about 30mins ago I took my trike for the first time for about a 5-15min ride down a dirt road. The throttle was pinned the whole time.

When I stopped for about 10mins, the person that was with me, pointed out that the trike was leaking alot of oil out of the air box.

This has never happened before and now I am nerves on what I should do.

Does anyone know what happened and what the issue is?

    Thanks guys

ya, its coming out the breather into the airbox because you put too much in. Check the oil level.

I agree with jeff up there^ You put too much oil in it. Drain the oil out, and put fresh in. Check it after one qt. , But I believe it takes about 2 if its completly empty. Dont quote me on that. Check it as you fill. It also wouldnt be a bad idea to change the oil filter, its a paper element, and should be changed at least a few times a year. Any dealer should be able to help you out, or a shop. While your at it, also check/change the rear differential fluid. Find a manual if needed. Good luck!

it takes 1.5 to fill, 1.8 quarts if you change filter. so drain the oil , change the filter then put 1.5 quarts in, check the dip stick, then add small amount till full but shouldnt be more than 1.8. So if it was a bit low and stii showed on the dipstick, you probably put about .8 quarts to much

seriously? why did you assume it needed a whole bottle when u checked and found it low. if you know to check to see if its low I assume you can check to see if its to much too when your adding oil. see a manual for the proper way to check your oil.....

So you don't know what oil was in it before and added a whole bottle of 10w-30? You need to get a copy of the owners manual and read it or there's a good chance your gonna ruin that thing by not knowing what your doing.
