    New to 3ww

    I recently purchased a Yamaha 225dx...its in real nice shape...but it does need new tires...Does anyone have any advice for me on tire size and type...It currently has 22x11x8 on the rear and I was wondering if I should put 20x11x8 on it instead...

    Hi,the 22x11x8s are good for a little extra ground clearance,and work as a little suspension on hardtail machines.They are a little harder to break traction on a turn with. The 20x11x8s would be better suited for sport riding, they will be easier to break traction with due to less sidewall roll.it depends on what type of riding you will be doing

    going down to 20 inch tires will lower the gearing and lower your top speed by about 8-12MPH in my experiences and give your machine more pulling p[ower. on my 110 i have had 22s,21s,and 20s and i liked the 22s the most and the 20s the least.

    "going down to 20 inch tires will lower the gearing and lower your top speed by about 8-12MPH''
    I'm not sure about this 1
    Yes it would lower your top speed but I don't think it would be that much
    if your going lets say 60mph with 22"
    With 20"s, it would be about 54.5mph
    22" = 60mph
    20" = 54.4mph
    Tell me if i'm wrong

    i was just estimating upon my own experiences. 22s i could go 40 flat, with the 20s it was 30. now with my 21s i have now i can only get her up to 35ish. so from my own experiences its close to 5MPH per inch, then put the variable of tread wear and manufacturer differences. i didn’t do any math or calculations with my estimation, simply just my own experiences
