how would a person go about doing the swap of cam chains? would you take the cdi box off and go in through that hole

You need a maual. It's not a hard job but 1 side cover ( I think the left) needs to come off as well as both clutches. You'll need a clutch holding tool or an impact for that. Do a search. There may be a thread w/ a walkthrough here. The manual can be downloaded for free. I don't have the link at the moment.
