The quad to trike got me thinking.
Wonder if the 2 wheeled fat cats ARE still legal and available because of the missing wheel, maybe THEY are easily converted to the beloved tripod config.
I don't really see them for sale very often so they are either kept and cherished or they didnt make many.

they were only made from 86 to 87 so thats probably why theres not alot around. they would still be legal to make if they did because they are dirtbikes, not trikes in anyway. making it a trike would probably be like any dirtbike conversion other than it already has a fat tire on the front.

The BW (bigwheel) & TW are different models of bike. The Yamaha BW had larger tires like the Honda Fat Cat. Yamaha still produces the TW today. It doesn't have as big of tires like the BWs and Fat Cats, but still larger than a traditional bike.

The Fat Cat is pretty rare and that being said, its got a reasonably high resale value. They are harder to find and as much money as a 350X, nice R or a Tecate, so you could buy any three wheeler you wanted for the price of a Fat Cat. It would probably be cheaper to pick up a quad and convert it to a three wheeler. And cutting up one rare piece to make another doesn't make much sense. But there are 800 billion quads just waiting for someone to take a wheel off the front end. Of course Honda could make them again legally but then people would have to buy something brand new just to cut up, and most people with fabricating/mechanical skills wouldn't likely buy something brand new just to modify it.

Yamaha made 3 different models. The made the BW80, BW200 and BW350. The 80 is a two stroke, the 200 and 350 are 4's. I have a BW80 and it is pretty cool.

BW 80 is almost the same as the PW80. i think just the wheels dif, tripple tree forks and swingarm dif

The output shaft is longer on the BW motor, other than that, they are identical motors.

I was just in a dealership here in Hawaii two weeks ago. You can still buy new Yamaha street legal fat cats here. The owner of the shop even has one that he rides to work, Go figure that, since he can ride anthing he wants. There is an old matching pair of Yamaha at the Waikiki boat harbor parking. They have been sitting there atleast 10 yrs undisturbed. I don't have any Idea what became of the owner. I think its a shame they are just sitting there rotting.
I have a 1986 250r that I converted with a "Missile kit", to a two wheeler, its awesome. I am now working on a 1987 visual match 250R build project.
The Honda Fat Cats are cute with a 200 motor electric start and automatic if I am not mistaken. But the wheels on either bike are still not as big as the Trike wheels and they are not rims they are spoked wheels.
There is a guy that sells parts on Ebay. He converted a fat cat swinger to fit on his R some how, and uses a front trike rim on the rear. He loves that thing. I have wondered how it would handle with the more thin rear tire.
The missile kit has a off set double sproket so you can use your stock rims and tires. There were a couple of mods that had to be done. Then I made some cool custom mods like a custom sproket cover to go over the large 15 tooth front sprokec. I had to change the rear sproket to dial it down, it was too high geared for trail riding the the stock back one.
