Got an amazing deal this weekend!!!!!!!!!

this weekend, thanks to craigslist, i found a 1986 250es big red for sale. the price was firm, and i showed up to see it. its in decent shape, runs amazing very clean running. it has the infamous choke problem but after warming up a little it starts fine.

the price was 650 but little did i know it also included 2 more engines for parts, 2 more trunks/lids, a whole box of parts, 2 more handlebars, and a second rear axle.

i grabbed it quick and i want to do a FULL tear down, rebuild and i wanna restore this baby to all stock. first part is fixing the choke. how do i fix the problem on this and make it work? also im going to be posting to find more parts. Pics also to come!!!

if its an 86, it should have the newer cold start jet.

what number is on the carb? 01?-02?

anyway, Shindy HAS the new press in jet 03-015 kit aand it looks significantly larger than the old one.

I have 2 on deck and one will get the press in jet and the other gets pulled out and drilled.

The choke circuit really has not much to do with the honda cold start recall prob.

It is like the main piston with a needle that opens some suction passage to let the cold start jet allow more fuel in.

Now THOSE pistons can get stuck and terminally so.

I drip mystery oil down the choke cable every so often to make sure it stays free.

Now some of those pistons have a wheel cylinder type rubber seal that gets stuck and the early ones are simple cylinders without a seal.
they both suck if they get stuck.

Let me look for the factory recall notice. Honda quit making them but shindy has them

    good luck
