Thumbs up Money Trike Build-Up (Pics) UPDATE 06/09/2010

First off, I would like to let you know that my "Beater Big Red Project" ran head first into the ground. Put alot of time and money into that bike only to realize that the wiring was ruined and the frame was twisted beyond repair. I still have the bike and I am using a majority of parts off it for this project.

A guy moves to my town and buys an 85 big red and we became friends through working on his bike. Along with his bike he bought $100 worth of parts from the guy. WOW what a load! Frames, engines, front racks, cylinder heads, stators, headlight frames, seats, differentials, shocks, you name it. Some of it turned out to be garbage, but I'd say he made out good.

He doesn't know much about these bikes but he is learning from me, but he is very willing to get things done. We already fixed several things on his trike (including swing-arm bearings) and we make a great duo.

We came up with the idea to make a trike out of the parts off my "Beater Project" and his parts. I made a list of the main, important parts. We split it right down the middle (mine,his,mine,his...) We could put the thing together in a day, but were going to clean, paint, grease, etc all the parts before putting them together.

We are going to sell it. The guys around here don't worry about titles and such, so that wont be a problem. But, if we end up liking the bike, he said he will buy my half, and keep it for himself and give his other one to his son.

We picked the best frame out of all our parts. Sanded, primed and painted it. Came out nice. Now, on to the motor. This thing was BEAT. The trike that this was in was absolutely bulletproof (not the forks however) I cleaned it up, and looked for leaks. Found a fairly big one on the back of the left crankcase cover that was patched up with JB weld or something. Luckily we had one in the parts. Now it is ready to go back on tomorrow and I will do a final cleaning before I paint it grey.

This is all for now, but it will be making very fast progress so keep watching. We plan on having it running/riding by next weekend. Unless we run into any other obstacles. Sorry for the long story! haha enjoy some pics you guys!

Here's where the engine came from.

Looks like fun. Turning a pile of parts into what looks might be a pretty nice trike so far. Now that my x is almost done I'm already looking for another basket case full a parts to mess with. Keep updates coming.

Thanks, as long as it looks better than the bike in the first picture I'll be happy

We have a good tank and newly upholstered seat and good rider fenders for it. Should be a nice looking trike when done. Were aiming for around $900

doing good man .. i know how it feels to build a trike from the ground up .. i started with just a blown up motor out of my old 200s .. i built my auto x from the ground up and spent allot doing it probably more than id care to admit lol but it was a blast to build ..

stick with it man it will pay off in the end when you say "look at what i built"
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

    GIT IT RAAAGGGGG !!!!

    UPDATE:

Cleaned the engine with diesel, and got it painted up. Turned out pretty nice I must say, better than if it were all grey. The black accents (oil line, valve covers) Throw it off nicely. Took a little longer than expected but I think im back on track. Next up, Rear End!

    Thanks! much appreciated.

    Things left to do:

    Recover seat = 50$
    Swingarm Bearings = Check
    Rear end = almost ready
eletrical mess = needs some work

Im not messing with any of the eletrical on this thing. As long as it has spark and possibly a headlight, I'm good!

A lot done today, new races/bearings in swinger. Painted and put in the bike. Had a lot of trouble with one of the bolts but I have a trick to it now. Threw some of the parts on it to get an idea of what it will look like.

Still needs its own recovered seat (one in pics is off mine)
    Front forks needed
I am using a different (better) rear rack
and I'm not using this tire scheme
