    Your opinion is needed- Yz125

So I've been looking at 2000+ year 125's that are blown, so I could have a project to fix up and tear around on. There's a local 2001 Yz125 with a blown top and bottom end (owner took apart) bent rear wheel and smoked rear tire. Guy wants $400. Plastics are painted all there, seat looks good, engine's in a box. Obviously it isn't worth $400, but would it be worth $300 or $200? I'm aware that I'm rebuilding the engine and splitting the cases, but I think it would be a good project. What do you guys think? Should I look at it?

I wouldnt give 400 for it. 200 seems about right.

On EBAY, you can get a WISECO bottom end rebuild kit (EVERYTHING you need for the bottom end) for 170. I have a wiseco bottom end in my CR, and its good stuff.

top end kit for 123. MAKE SURE TO ORDER CORRECT SIZE PISTON. If the cylinder is tore up, expect to pay some bucks to have it re-plated. probably around 200-250.

cylinder plating place. Millennium does top notch work.

Rear wheel could either be cheap or expensive. have to keep your eyes open. im gonna say 200 max for the wheel.

SO, your gonna have about 800 into it as it sits if you source your parts from the places i listed, from your description. if it needs other parts, even more.
so with bike cost, you will have about a grand into it if it needs nothing else. i would say if you have to sink more than 12-1300 into it, then it isnt worth the effort. . look around and see what good bikes of that era are going for.

you can count on putting new tires on it. rockymountainatv.com and you can get a new set for 120 ish. if the tires are at all worn, PUT NEW ONES ON. biggest mistake ever running old tires on my bike....it handles 100% better with new tires.

check chain, sprockets, shifting action, and the suspension. leaky fork seals will run about another 100 to fix PROPERLY (bushing kit, seals, fork oil)
loose rear suspension bearing linkages would probably be 200 to rebuild with Pivot-Works kits.

Thanks guys for the replies, well as it turns out the guy is firm on $400, so I passed. Anyone have a 125 in need of TLC they want to sell?

He is a fool. painted plastics make it worth even less. and after simply putting the motor back together, you are right about at what the bike is worth.

Well guy e-mailed me back and I took a look at it. Picked it up for $220. It's actually in really nice shape (and an '02.)
