just a little fun at the expense of Kasey/250Rmad and MR ATC

Since Kasey and I are two stuborn old men who refuse to let the subject Die, lets have a little poll. I say if the poll favors Kasey i'll never speak on the subject again, IF Kasey agree's to the same.

i am sticking to the basic's and avoiding the off topic remarks

a member (Basket) asks about installing a CR 500 motor in a ATC 250R chassie.

Kasey explains his method and his experiance with his machine

MR ATC post a thread explaining that while Kasey's frame works and has had no problems it is not the best way to do the conversion. MR ATC also provides an alternate way to do the install Based on his experiance building them.

Kasey takes this as an insult to his design and fires off at MR ATC saying he has no proof of this.

MR ATC explains that although Kasey has had no problems with this if he ( MR ATC) were to ride the ATC he could probably brake the frame within an hour of hard MX use. He ( MR ATC ) said this knowing that it is indeed possible because he has broken stock frames that still have the brace in question

Kasey can't beleive it is possible to do so because it has not happened to him

MR ATC post a picture of a stock 250R frame damaged in the very same area in question.

Kasey still can't believe it is possable. it's good for him so it must be good for EVERY one else.

MR ATC NEVER said Kasey's frame was not good for him ( Kasey). MR ATC said HE ( MR ATC ) could brake the frame.

MR ATC ask's Kasey what does he (Kasey) think would have happened if his (Kasey) frame sustained the same kind of impact as MR ATC's 250R frame has sustained.

Kasey has yet to answer the question and dances around the question.

Basket list his 250R/500 frame on EBAY. it is built like Kasey's Frame.
it sells for a WHOPPING $9.98.

Like Ace, I'm no spring chicken. :-D
But I had no idea that the "easy" CR500 conversion meant mash a frame tube and cut braces away! If I bought a CR500 conversion frame and it showed up like that, I'd be pissed. I think I'd rather put a 250R swingarm and front end on a CR500 MX frame.

No matter how much of an insufferable SOB he may be, I have to vote Bill based on the evidence too. :-D

Here is a pict of my frame after 2 years. don't compare mine to baskets hatchet job ,,,, notice skid plate is still intact,,, since there is NO DAMAGE under it i don't think i am at risk....... BUT i supose if i repetedly slammed it to the ground and smashed it all to hell it might be a problem ,,, but i don't ride like that so there is no problem,,,,

    Basket followed YOUR advice.

i NEVER said the way YOU ride it was the issue

i said it is POSSIBLE for frame failure and that I could brake it.

this is your problem Kasey you keep thinking it is about you and your riding when it is not.

you still have failed to answer my question

Why is it that on almost every poll I have no box to check to make my vote and no I'm not trying to vote twice I click on poll and there is no way for me to vote. And Im W/ Mr. ATC on this one if you have cut out a brace on a 250R and smash the frame and then install an engine thats twice the CC's I would not ride that machine. Making a frame weaker and installing a higher horsepower motor makes no sence to me, just seems like the easy and cheaper way to go not the safest and when it comes to trikes you guys we all need to put safety first. Just my 2 cents and 27 years of trike riding experiance talking.

P.S. To me thats sort of like removing the air bag (after its deployed on you) from a car because it cost $600.00 to replace and selling it to the next guy and not informing him and he dies in a accedent because of there being no air bag then you would have to live with that the rest of your life. We may think we will hold on to our trikes forever but sooner or later Im sure someone else will be riding these trikes.

I'm with Kasey somewhat on this one. If he has been riding it that long without failure in the INTENDED CONDITIONS meant for it....then I say it is strong enough. If the trike was MXed, or jumped extremely, then I say its not the best design.
[20:55] <waterpumper> putting a racing pipe on a Foreman is like putting a high dollar bikini on a 400 pound chick...just because it fits doesn't mean it looks cool

then you miss the point and need to re-read. i never said it was wrong for him or his conditions. it was and always has been about MX type conditions. i have already conceded for sand conditions with little jumps it would probably be ok. the debate was what would happen if the frame was taken out of the sandbox.

I think I would look more at changing the eng. Trajectory with the mounts than flattening the frame. Flattening a round tube removes it’s tinsel strength. The cross member is for roll over support. Will not help on hard impact. and Of course you can brake any frame if you try.

    roll over support :?: :?: :?: were did that come from :?: :?: :?:

    the supports do severall things

they brace and back up the main rails

they stiffen the frame to reduce frame flex

they prevent the main cross member ( that the rear shock linkage mounts to and vertical and horizontal mai rails mount to ) from twisting

I usually try to stay away from knocking others but, if that was my work I would not be posting it on the internet for others to see.
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
