    250ES Big Red - reverse?

I have an 85 250es. How do I get to reverse? I thought it was hit the front brake and then down one under neutral.

Doesn't seem to work, I have no brake cable but I moved it by hand and still nothing.

Also, did this bike have a choke cable? I am missing one....along with many other parts lol.

    Thanks

That button is there, maybe no wires to it tho....

The lever meaning the front brake, or a different cable's lever? Sorry, PO sucked at owning stuff.

when you push the button down and pull on the brake lever it should engage a different cable other than the parking brake cable

right... the button looks similar to a parking brake button... hold the button, pull in the lever, and shift down

If you have the service manual it's on page 39.

Will have to look at that manual to figure this out. No lever on that side at all, no button beside: "high/low", "start" "off/run/off" and maybe one other. Gotta love people who ruin things.

Key does nothing, no battery, no wires coming from elec. starter motor, no brakes working, cut cables, shitty spray paint (seriously, spend $4 more a can for enamel so it comes out looking great and not like crap) and atc 110 fenders cut and covering the racks.

    Man people suck.

It's not a button near the starter, it's on top of the brake lever and it's more of a peg than a button. It goes from a lever behind the right foot rest (same side as the foot brake) around the motor, up under the tank, then to the left brake lever assembly. Find the lever by the foot rest and follow it up.
Here it is on mine, kind of hard to see because my plastic cap is mostly missing, and white.

Thanks. No wonder I couldn't find it....looked at the manual and your picture.....I don't even have a lever on that side. Is there anyway to bypass using the switch/button and lever (safety device) and just leave it engaged so I can shift into reverse?

Will have to chase the cable onto the engine and see where it goes, if I even have one.

Yes...you can bypass the normal way to use this ......just pull back the lever on the engine that is attached to the lower end of the cable and use wire or something to hold it in this position. Then when you are in neutral, you just shift down into reverse. I'm not saying that this is a wise thing to do...but it is certainly possible to do.
