    Cal-fab 86-87 tecate +2

yep there is a "s" after cal-fab. i just got back from tucson . i sold a yfz pipe i had and met the kid. well he is going to start racing a YFZ so i Was talking to him and hus dad,, well dad raced years ago like alot of us did, so it was old home week for a while,, well he raced TECATES ,, he said he was cleaning up and had a few parts left to get rid of.. so i drove to his house today,, you never know,,, well it was all JUNK!!! stuff been setting out in the desert sun for 20 plus years,, so it was a 3 hour drive for nothing, well on my way out the gate for a long slow ride home,, the kid says "what about the box of junk in the garage???" well in the box was a +2 cal-fab swinger and 3 wasted stators,, i was hmmm not much to look at here.. then he said he has another swinger on a frame behind the garage,, so lets look ,, well its another +2 cal-fab.. so i now have 2 2+ cal-fab swingers to get rid of ,,, they are 84-85 one is very unmolested and all the holes are great.. the second one has a few spare holes drilled in it but it has a chain guide on it,, so what are they worth??? i am not sure i want to do much to them,, but i figured somebody would like to have one. or 2??? help me out here,, i have no need for these and don't really want to hold on to them either,

The one in the pic looks like its for the 86-87 Tecate. The 84-85 Tecate Calfab was a different style. They are worth $500 to $1K each.

They do swap between years. I'm positve that one is originally for a 86-87.

It's funny you should say that since you told me Tecate's suck.

    Here.. I'll even quote you.

"And I have a 1984 250r, Tecates I found out are PURE crap and tri z's don't go that fast."

    and another.

Oh-oh, I see a dispute coming on....... He's just out to make a buck, but who wouldnt in this shitty world these days. I dont blame you at all Kasey, I would do the same thing. I would love to have one, but cant afford those price tags. Hopefully someone gets them, restores them, and puts them on their ride. Nice rare piece. Good luck!

I new someone was going to say that.lol . BUT I should take that back. The red POS tecate that I owned had the timing WAY off. So I sent the jug out and that didn't help at all ,so I got pissed off And got rid of it. I really regret it now. Recently I rode a super nice 1985 green tecate with some kind of a 330 big bore kit and that SCREEEAMED!! Couldn't the front end down. lol . As for the tri z's I still think there dirt slow. But thats just my thought. But as of now i' trying to collect every popular sport model atc from the 80's.

Kasey, I didnt mean to offend you at all. I know where you are coming from, I have a lot of projects, I guess you could call all of them projects, because even if they run and drive, and look good, there is ALWAYS somthing to be done. I can see where you stand, the project needs to be completed at some point of time, and I would do the same to earn a little extra cash on the side. For me, it may be selling a few parts here and there, working on other people's machines, or buying lawn equipment, getting it running/usable, and selling it on the side, besides having a full time job and 15 month old son, my hands are full! I still manage to find a little time to ride, talk, and work on 3 wheelers. Once again, good luck with whatever you decide!

These things look sweet and i guess they are priced high because there vintage and rare, but why would someone pay some much for one when u can have a aftermarket one made for $500 or less in almost any length u wanted. For example im gonna have to restore my 250r and i love the look of the original colors with the gold swinger and wheels but i may want a +2 swinger for it and my buddy makes custom swingers and told me he could make one for less than 500 for it so why would i pay 1000 for a cal fab or west coast? I also understand on the money part though i wouldn't sell them for no less than what they are worth to better your other trikes. Does a +2 swinger affect a trike jumping ability at all? Only thing ive ever had stretched was a banshee with a +6.

    Nice find Kasey,

Can you provide a measurement between the pivot bolt and the top bearing hanger bolt. This will assist in the length and maybe application. I only have an 86 but I believe the 1st gen (84/85) will fit on a 2nd gen (86/87) however the 1st gen stocker is supposedly -2" shorter than the stock 2nd gen. At least that is what my aging memory recalls. Let us know.
