I'll be damd... why my 81 250r blew up

started to take my 250r apart and well looky here... looks like a small piece of bailing wire somehow got into the chamber and got wedged between the piston and the bore. (after it put some dings on top of the piston) how the hell did that thing make its way in there? or is it from something else that is about to grenade? I'm not sure on this anyone got any idears?

how long is the wire? those 2 strokes can let stuff get sucked into the intake cuz theres no valves... check for places where stuff can get in the intake, or maybe something got in if it backfired while starting, out of the exhaust thats possible

Did you have an air filter on it? If you did it would have had to come from inside the engine. Could it be a part from the inside of your air filter?

air filter is on. it does look like a circlip. the air box and filter are stock. I'm hoping its not a roller pin from the bottom end. the whole system is sealed so im leaning on circlip. i wont know untill i get the jug off but right now one of the nuts is rounded off. i don't have the money for parts at the moment so ill just wait untill I get my first paycheck to take care of it. unless i find a cr480 to do the motor swap on. right now I'm still undecided.

Ooops... well sorry I kinda fell by the wayside for umm;; almost a year! having so many projects ranging from the 1950's on up some times things sit... well anyways. it was the circlip, so now almost a year later, the .75mm over jug is back on with a brand new weisco piston, everything is back together with the exception of the carb, which is apart sitting in carb dip at the moment. just in time to go ride it. this season there's only a few things on that trike that will need attention, need some bushings here and there, and I need to rebuild the front forks. but boy it felt good to kick that thing over and feel that new compression.. yippee....
