As you guys well know by know, I am constantly trying to make products that were either never made or are now discontinued.
The headlight guards I made were awesome but took too long to make. I'm not Honda, I don't have 5oolb presses, hole punches and an assembly line procedure. Everything I make is a 1 off and no 2 are identical, nut never EXACTLY the same.
So, I've changed gears and now I'm trying to find things that I can make cheaper and ship cheaper.
It took a month to get these the way I wanted them. They are 6061 air box rings. They support the plastic and no matter how tight you tighten your clamp, they won't back off. All my UNI/Moose filters would back off unless I barely snugged them and there was no oil under that area. Even the oil from oiling the filter would help them back off. On big jumps and tough trails I even found my filter to fall off halfway during the ride (but at least you can hear that..............)
Your stock filter had a metal support in it (this replaces that for a UNI or Moose filter) Once the stock piece is removed, (which use to support it) then the plastic just crushes because it is just thin plastic. The stock inner screen also use tom poke out the back and attach to a bracket or something so the filter could not come off. Once it's removed, there is no support, hence the "air box rings" I made.
Anyhow, I buy 6061 aluminum, they are super light and I turn them down to pop into your air box. Then your clamp can be as tight as you want and even oil on the filter inside won't allow them to come off. Some fit a bit looser than others, some must be tapped in place but they do no restrict airflow and either fit is locked in place once the filter is tightened.
If there is interest, I will make ones for the 83-85 200X and the 250R. I'm sure Yamahas have similar issues as well as Tecate's but I don't have those to fit up right now. DEEPA and Fabio can bring theirs buy and I can take measurements and order more 6061........
These are completely handmade on a lathe and I'm just trying to make up some less expensive items that may sell. I am asking 25$ INCLUDING shipping for these, the material and lathe work too.
Please let me know if there is any further interest! And Thanks for reading my book!
Here are the pics:
PS, If anyone knows of a photo editing program I can download, please help me out. I have nothing after the Windows crash and I did my best to brighten the one shot "in the box" but I need a photoshop or MGI Photosuite program thats fast and easy to deal with! Thanks!
