One goes to ground and the other goes on your spark plug wire.

While I'm at it.. it's a tach as in tachometer.
    Rides:
1986 ATC250R (sectional pipe and Klemm Research silencer)
1986 ATC250R (Desert Bike, WAX-ON seat, Dual Cibie lights, Steering Stabilizer)
1979 ATC110 (Bandito frame and forks, Turbo wheels, disc braked)
    1982 ATC70 (Lifan manual 125)
    1987 LT80 (piped, widened)

    Not a taco-meter...? Dang, I am hungry...
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

I know a lttle bit about them but first off what machine are you attempting to hook it up too and what kind of tach are you hooking up to that machine ???
The tachs I am familaer with for trikes are 3 wire lead type (2 and four stroke)
    1 wire to ground
    1 wire to 12 volt
1 wire to the "HOT" lead on the coil (the wire that sends voltage to the coil at just the right time).
these that I hand make show the 3 wire leads (no back lighting)
