One goes to ground and the other goes on your spark plug wire.
While I'm at it.. it's a tach as in tachometer.

I know a lttle bit about them but first off what machine are you attempting to hook it up too and what kind of tach are you hooking up to that machine ???
The tachs I am familaer with for trikes are 3 wire lead type (2 and four stroke)
1 wire to ground
1 wire to 12 volt
1 wire to the "HOT" lead on the coil (the wire that sends voltage to the coil at just the right time).
these that I hand make show the 3 wire leads (no back lighting)
